What does MacBook battery health percentage mean?
Battery health is an estimate of today’s usable capacity relative to the battery’s design capacity. It naturally falls as a lithium-ion battery chemically ages, and day-to-day estimates can move in either direction.
Use the trend, not one decimal place
Anode records locally reported capacity over time so you can see whether a change is persistent. A single value can shift after calibration, an operating-system update or a full charge cycle. The macOS Battery Health condition remains the authoritative service signal; Anode presents supporting context rather than overriding it.
Why 80 percent appears so often
Apple says a normal Mac battery is designed to retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity at its maximum cycle count under normal conditions. That is a design reference, not a timer that makes every battery fail at the same date. Model, age, temperature and usage patterns all matter.
When to use Apple diagnostics
If macOS reports Service Recommended, runtime drops sharply, the case swells or charging becomes unreliable, follow Apple’s service guidance. Anode can highlight capacity below 80 percent, but it cannot inspect cells or certify hardware condition.
